A booklet is a book with smaller dimension and lesser pages as compared to an actual “book”. A booklet usually contains not less than 4 content pages and not more than 48 content pages. However, booklet has more variety in term of sizes and pages nowadays. The most common size of booklet is A4 booklet (closed size = A4, open size = A3) and A5 booklet (closed size = A5, open size = A4). The size of booklet always depends on personal preference; custom size booklet is very common as more and more people prefer to have special design.
A digital booklet is the booklet produced by digital printers. Digital printing is recommended when the booklet print number is less than 200 copies – anything above this amount should be done via offset printing for cheaper production. However, if the booklet consists only of black and white printing such as Annual General Meeting (AGM) reports, price-list booklet and etc., digital printing is still preferable as the cost for black and white laser print is comparable with, if not cheaper than, offset printing.
Booklet is generally divided into two different parts, i.e. book cover and inner pages. For booklet cover, thicker paper material such as Art Card, Ivory Card and Linen Card are recommended. This is to prevent the booklet from being damaged by physical movement. To ensure further protection from liquid and scratches, lamination is always recommended for the booklet cover. Lamination is the process of binding extra clear layer to the book cover in order to achieve improved strength, stability and liquid insulation. The lamination material is usually made of clear plastic, matte or glossy. Some customers thought the lamination can improve the appearance of the booklet. The second part of a booklet is the inner pages. The material used for inner pages usually depends on the purpose of the booklet. For example, small pocket booklet used for note recording purpose may use simili papers for its inner page. Lamination is seldom applied on the inner pages because it is not cost effective for the end-users.
